Features of Straight Fluted Hand/Machine Tap

1. Straight Flutes

   • Run parallel to the axis of the tap

   • Act as both cutting edges and chip channels

   • Suitable for through holes and some blind holes (in softer materials)

2. Cutting Edges (Lands)

   • Located along the flute edges

   • Perform the actual material cutting

   • Sharp and hardened for precise threading

3. Tapered Cutting End

   • Usually the first few threads are tapered

   • Helps guide the tap into the hole smoothly

   • Reduces cutting force at the start

4. Shank

   • The smooth portion that’s clamped in a tap wrench or machine

   • Standardized dimensions (e.g., square end for manual use)

5. Square Drive End

   • Fits into tap holders or wrenches

   • Allows rotation and torque transfer
